PIPE & DRUMS OF THE UNION DEFENCE FORCE – THE ARMY OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES “Desert Legion” LP (UDF 001 ORIGINAL!!)
This is the only full length LP I’ve ever seen from the United Arab Emirates, released in the 1970s, and it sure is a strange one: a mix of traditional Emirati Arabic folk with military marches and traditional Scottish bagpipe tunes. No, I am not kidding. You can listen to the ENTIRE LP at the link below. It is really something out of this world. I have heard similar recordings from Oman, so maybe it’s a general Arab Gulf thing? I have no clue. I’m going to guess that since it is released in cooperation with the government of the UAE (or at least with the kind permission of the UAE minister of defense, as shown on the back sleeve), it was probably meant more as a promotional/tourist item than as a commercial release.

Condition: Record is VG+ to VG, depending on the passage, with some noticeable pops here and there, and some scrapes that are loudest between tracks, but don’t really get in the way of the music. Again, you can (and should) listen to the entire LP at the above link and judge for yourself. Sleeve is VG, with dirt and general age wear. Check the photos.
