The Undertones hit the big time with their self-titled debut album in 1979. They never expected it to receive the critical acclaim it did, but that came once again a year later with its follow-up, Hypnotised. This one had a slightly more edgy sound and was recorded at Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands in December 1979. Lyrically the themes continued where the debut left off and touched on teenage angst, boisterousness, and heartbreak but with a more sophisticated sound. The album reached number six in the UK Albums Charts and was thus the highest-charting album of their career.
