Description
U2 BOY early 1980 IRISH IRELAND CBS LP + INNER + EXTRA TRACK Bono Edge
U2, Boy.
Scarce 1980 Ireland pressed CBS Records stereo LP, S CBS 84658.
Catalogue numbers followed by A and B and "SOUND CLINIC" etched to run-off/dead wax areas.
This release has a short (approximately 30 seconds) unlisted and uncredited track at the end of the second side after "Shadows and Tall Trees." The track is not separated into its own band on the vinyl though it is audibly discernible.
LP is housed in inner and outer sleeves which do not have a country of manufacture, and feature the UK issue Island catalogue number (ILPS 9646) On the inner sleeve this number is followed by (i), perhaps denoting an Irish press, and on the outer sleeve the catalogue number is followed by an asterisk (*). Neither sleeve has additional stickers with catalogue numbers.
LP in well preserved condition with clean unmarked labels and glossy playing surfaces which display just a very few minor and superficial hairline scuff marks.
Playback has been fully tested and is close to EX. Just a couple of very short lived moments of quiet crackle during quieter patches and a couple of soft consecutive ticks near the end of the LP. Else the surfaces are clean and quiet.
Picture/lyric inner sleeve features diagonal cut corners and inset thumb groove to top entry side. This is top end VG plus. No marks, tears or seam splits. Just some minor thumbing creasing and some finger smudging visible to the predominantly black picture side.
External sleeve also a top end VG plus. Structurally clean and tidy and has not been knocked around or become worn and tired looking. Front and rear panels have vestiges of tanning and rubbing darkening. There is a small tan splash mark stain to top left corner of rear, but this is pretty unobtrusive and there are no prominent marks, no loss, sticker or pen marks. Seams, spine and entry side are in great shape with no fraying or seam splits, and tips are just gently whitened, without loss of shape.
All in all a nice issue of an LP which is becoming fairly tough to locate.
