Rare beautiful still-sealed copy of this small label gem which features the legendary experimental bassist Bertram Turetzky on both the Stalvey piece and Erb's Trio For Two which was written for him and his wife Nancy. The electronic portion of Kyrie is a collage of samples of news broadcasts. Jazz orchestrator turned avant classical composer Stalvey conducts his own work, and pianists Gilbert Kalish and James Smolko, oboeist Ronald Roseman, percussionist Richard Weiner, and The University Circle Singers directed by William Appling are also featured.
artist info from album notes:
Bertram Turetzky brought about the emergence of the contrabass as a solo instrument (along with Fernando Grillo), and has worked with Barre Phillips, George Lewis, Ilhan Mimaroglu, John Cage, Ben Johnston, Pauline Oliveros, Donald Erb, Jerome Rothenberg, Roger Reynolds, and Vinny Golia; he has recorded on Derek Bailey's Incus label. Erb studied under Kenneth Gaburo, Harold Miles, and Nadia Boulanger and worked with Paul Beaver, Bernard Krause, Stuart Dempster, Richard Stoltzman, and Robert Moog; he devised electro-acoustic treatments and extended playing techniques for traditional instruments. Rochberg studied with George Szell and Gian Carlo Menotti; his early influences were from Bartok, Schoenberg, and Webern.
