Description
Trimp's Ambassador Bell Hops Orchestra plays "What A Man!" and "Reaching for the Moon" on Okeh personal Truetone Ambassador Record 1A/B. "Man" is a hot, modernistic arrangement, Bix-influenced trumpet, and and two excellent trombone solos by Vernon Brown. "Moon" is straight dance with a few hot flourishes.

This record by the Missouri Cotton Pickers was not released commercially, but was distributed in connection with the opening of the Ambassador Hotel in St. Louis in August 1926 (see last photo). The band was rechristened Trimp's Ambassador Bell Hops Orchestra. They played opposite Frank Trumbauer's orchestra at the Arcadia Ballroom. Read all about here: http://www.vjm.biz/trimps-website.pdf. This record is in V+ condition on the "Man" side and VV+ on the less interesting "Moon" side. Please note that because Okeh was having trouble with its cutting lathe, the record must be played at 88 rpm to obtain the proper pitch.
