Description
Background
Over the next 12-18 months I’ll be selling off a massive collection of records (5000+) from a shop that shut it’s doors in the early 1980’s. The collection covers a period from the late 1960’s through to the time of the shop’s closure and includes large quantities of 60s/70’s rock, progressive and modern classical music. Most of the items are unplayed (or at most have sustained a single play) unless otherwise noted. You don’t get many opportunities to purchase unplayed 70’s shop stock anymore! This short paragraph of background information is included whenever an item has been sourced from this collection.
UNSOLD SHOP STOCK UK RCA Red Seal Red label STEREO L.P. pressing of Toru Takemitsu’s ‘Asterism’ (for Piano and Orchestra with Yuji Takahashi), ‘Requiem’ (for String Orchestra), ‘Green’ (for Orchestra) and ‘The Dorian Horizon’ (for 17 Strings) (Catalogue Reference: RCA Red Seal SB 6814). This features the Toronto Symphony under the direction of Seiji Ozawa. This features Jasper John’s ‘Green Target’ as the cover art and is clearly an early/1st pressing. This has the raised RCA labels on the vinyl (I believe characteristic of DECCA pressings) and has a laminated front sleeve. The period RCA inner sleeve is dated 02/70. The vinyl is graded as being in EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT condition. I believe this copy might have been played once. The labels are immaculate/as new. The sleeve is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition (more condition details below).
Tracklisting Side One:
Asterism
Requiem
Tracklisting Side Two:
Green
The Dorian Horizon
Condition
L.P. Cover
The cover is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition. The laminate shines like new and the rear is white (i.e. not at all discoloured with age). The flaws are some creasing around the opening edge to the sleeve which are a result of removing the record, some light lifting of the laminate along the spine and perhaps most significantly the bottom left-hand corner has sustained a knock which has resulted in a light bend to that corner of the sleeve. I should state that the latter is not that pronounced and is perhaps more visible on the rear when looking at the item under an intense light (which I always do). This is a very nice copy that clearly did not sell!
Vinyl
The vinyl is graded as being in EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT condition. You simply are not going to get a better copy. I would guess this might have been played once and under an intense light I can see (at most) a couple of hairline scratches.
Concluding Remarks
This is a beautiful copy of a rare and desirable avant-garde record. Please check my other auctions for further rare classical and modern classical records. Save me as a Favourite Seller because there is plenty more good stuff where this came from!
General Terms etc.
I endeavour to be accurate with all my grading. All items are graded under an intense light. I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years and I would describe myself as being conservative (I think my feed-back speaks for itself in this respect)! If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then contact me.
Payment is possible via Pay Pal and Personal Cheque. Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed. Multiple purchases will be subject to reduced postage costs. Please contact me at the end of the auctions to confirm these costs. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss postage in advance of the auction’s end.
Overseas buyers are welcome. You don’t need to email me. So long as you can pay me efficiently (i.e. Pay Pal) and I can get the item to you then that is good enough for me. However, if you want me to investigate postage costs overseas in advance of auction end then let me know!
