Description
The Maytals, known from 1972 to 2020 as Toots and the Maytals, are a Jamaican musical group, one of the best known ska and rocksteady vocal groups. The Maytals were formed in the early 1960s and were key figures in popularizing reggae music. Frontman, Toots Hibbert, who died in 2020, was considered a reggae pioneer on par with Bob Marley. His soulful vocal style was compared to Otis Redding, and led him to be named by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Singers. 'In the Dark' is their second international album release, issued in Jamaica and in the United Kingdom on Dragon Records - a subsidiary label owned by Chris Blackwell.
The unlaminated custom printed card sleeve would certainly grade as EX+ despite the fact it shows signs of handling and storage wear (slight corner rubbing/bumping). The spine is readable and the entry edge shows minimal signs of use. Ring wear is apparent.
The original white paper inner is undamaged apart from some age related discolouration. Graded as EX.
The vinyl is without doubt EX+ and has not been overly played. The Dragon labels are clean and undamaged apart from spindle marks on either side. On play grading there was a little faint crackle on the run in on both sides but nothing substantial, maybe a rare pop or click (certainly nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the record - even at high volume), during the remainder of the album. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The surface is very clean, glossy and shiny, a superb copy that conservatively grades as EX+.
