The Best of Tommy James and the Shondells, originally released in late 1969, is a quintessential compilation of one of the most successful pop-rock acts of the decade. Peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, this album captures the band at their commercial peak, when they were famously outselling contemporaries like The Beatles in single sales. The record features a powerhouse tracklist of garage rock and psychedelic pop anthems, including Crimson and Clover, Mony Mony, and Crystal Blue Persuasion. Of particular note to collectors, it is the only Tommy James album on the Roulette label to include the million-selling hit Ball of Fire. This release is highly regarded for its original vinyl mixes, which perfectly encapsulate the vibrant, punchy sound of late 60s radio.
