GRADING SCALE:

Sealed

Factory sealed record.

Near Mint (NM or M-)

No more than the most minor defects.

Excellent (EX)

Great condition! Only minor defects. An EX record should play very well.

Very Good Plus (VG+)

A VG+ record is still in nice condition and it should play pretty well. A VG+ cover has been well cared for, but will start to have more noticeable imperfections

Very Good (VG)

Your average used record that you'd find at a thrift store. It will have obvious wear. The vinyl will likely have some scuffs/scratches that are heavy enough to be felt with a fingernail. The record is still playable but it will have some surfaces noise and maybe some ticks throughout.

Good Plus (G+)

Vinyl will probably have scratches that are heavy enough to be felt with your fingertip. Can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and/or visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the cover.

Good (G)

Bad condition. Yes, "Good" means bad. Sorry, I didn't come up with this grading system. It's the system everyone uses so I'm stuck with it.

Poor (P), Fair (F)

Terrible condition. The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without
skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on
all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover
barely keeps the LP inside it.
