Description:
Up for sale is the 2-LP one-step pressing of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers.” This is the numbered edition, 0936 out of 6000.
“Wildflowers” came out in 1994 and is widely considered Petty’s finest solo work. He wrote and recorded far more material than made the final cut, originally planning it as a sprawling double album before the label pushed for a single disc. The extra songs later surfaced separately on “Wildflowers & All the Rest,” but this pressing presents the original album as Petty and producer Rick Rubin trimmed and sequenced it. Tracks like “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” “You Wreck Me,” and the title track became some of his most enduring, but it’s the quieter, more personal songs that set this record apart. Petty called it his most autobiographical album, written during a difficult stretch in his life, and that honesty comes through in every track. This one-step edition finally gives the original album the audiophile treatment it deserves.
If you’re not familiar with one-step pressings, here’s why they’re worth the extra cost. Most vinyl goes through a three-step plating process to get from the lacquer master to the stamper that presses your record, and each step introduces a small amount of generational loss. A one-step pressing skips that: the stamper is made directly from the original lacquer. Fewer steps means less signal degradation, so you get a quieter pressing with more detail and better dynamic range straight off the master. It’s part of why these editions get pressed in limited, numbered runs rather than as standard catalog stock.
Condition: the shrink wrap has been opened, but it’s still on the jacket. Discs and packaging are near mint. No seam splits anywhere on the box or gatefold. This has been played a small handful of times and handled carefully; no visible marks or wear beyond that light use. Please take a good look at the pictures, as they’re part of the description. Feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns before bidding.
