Collector's Copy: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Damn The Torpedoes (1979 Original US Vinyl LP)
Up for auction/sale is an absolute top-tier collector's copy of Tom Petty's masterpiece, "Damn the Torpedoes." This is a true 1979 original US first pressing, manufactured at the MCA Gloversville pressing plant. It has been meticulously preserved and played only two times since its purchase.
Condition Details:
Vinyl (NM): Gleaming, pristine vinyl that has only seen a stylus twice. Visually stunning with only faint hairline blemishes (shown in the photos ) that were totally inaudible during the test play of the full album.
Jacket (NM): Still housed in its original factory shrink wrap. The colors are crisp and vibrant, the corners are sharp, and the spine remains perfectly intact and legible.
Inner Sleeve (NM): Includes the original, heavy-stock custom inner picture sleeve with full album credits. Completely clean with no split seams or ring wear.
Matrix / Runout Identifiers:
This copy features the highly coveted original mastering stamps from Sterling Sound, cut by mastering legend Greg Calbi (GC).
Side 1 Matrix: MCA – 2015 – SS1 [Stamped: STERLING] [Etched: GC] followed by 3 connected boxes (Gloversville mark) and a distinct "2" stamped further away.
Side 2 Matrix: MCA – 2016 – SS2 [Stamped: STERLING] followed by the 3 connected boxes with a line through them.
An incredibly rare opportunity to own a foundational rock-and-roll album in archival condition.
Shipping & Handling:
Ships securely in a professional, sturdy cardboard record mailer with tracking. The vinyl will be placed behind the jacket during transport to ensure no seam splits occur during shipping, and the vinyl will be placed in a new poly bag outside of the jacket and inside of a new outer poly record outer sleeve to prevent inner sleeve damage during shipping.
