Up for sale is a vintage vinyl, 33RPM, 12-in, LP album entitled "A NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN BEE" by Tom O’Boyle.  This was produced by O’Boyle himself and recorded live by Research Associates of Manitou Springs, Colorado. It was recorded over a four-day period at the Golden Bee Pub associated with the world famous Broadmoor Hotel. The record was pressed in translucent golden vinyl.

In addition to the audience participation songs and the ragtime piano numbers, the first and last tracks on Side 2 talk briefly about the history of the Pub.  The historically famous Golden Bee is a Nineteenth Century ‘English pub’ at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado and has some intriguing origins. It is claimed that the pub was actually transferred to “the Broadmoor site” panel by panel, directly (or indirectly) from the UK. 

The Golden Bee was famous for its nightly audience-friendly music (which is now coming back to the Pub) and one of the most famous and popular performers was Tom O’Boyle. O'Boyle played in various locations at the Broadmoo for nearly 25 years, including the Golden Bee. O'Boyle came to Colorado Springs in the mid-1960s when the Army sent him to Fort Carson. Locally (in the good old days), fans would pack the Golden Bee and the Terrace Lounge to hear O’Boyle.  In tribute to his 25 years of musical contributions, his photo was select to appear in the Broadmoor’s Hotel’s “Walls of Fame” area of the resort.

O'Boyle died on May 24, 2013 in Colorado Springs. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on July 13, 1940. Tom's rare piano talent began at the age of 4 and continued through his school years. He studied music at St. Thomas College, Catholic University, and Augustana College.

This album is from my personal collection. Stationed at Fort Carson myself, my wife and I visited the Golden Bee many times in the early 1970s.  When I happened to see the LP listed online some 30 years later, I jumped at the chance to purchase it (even though it was used) as a rare LP collectible and a fond memory of our fun times there.

This album was well cared for during my ownership but it was purchased by me with some annoying edge wear and the bottom seam near the album’s opening has a 2.5-inch tear.  The record itself has a small warping 1-inch “bump” near the record’s edge; interestingly, while I can certainly see the record arm raise and lower as it passes over the bump the sound is not distorted.  When listening to albums from my collection, I played them individually on a turntable (never stacked). When I was finished with a record, it was replaced in its jacket and placed back in a dust free cabinet.
