Thelonious Monk piano solos. 'Monk's Mood' stars the great John Coltrane on sax & Wilbur Ware on bass. Recorded in New York, April 12 and 16, 1957.
This is the first UK pressing with '58.4' dated bottom flipback & a unique picture sleeve for the British market. For clarity, the UK Riverside release for this album was a later Philips-pressed blue label-only issue [there was no Decca-pressed 'white' Riverside label version for the UK as far as I know], which dates it to the early sixties & denotes it as a second issue.
Condition : Sleeve : Good. Lovely example with an unfortunate 3" split in the bottom opening with three inches of the left hand side of the bottom flip missing. Otherwise, little ring wear & some minor chipping to the laminate. Great UK-only design, kept in a protective clear PVC sleeve. Nice & clean & an example that has survived over half a century. Vinyl : Excellent. Professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine. Couple of faint paper hairlines not affecting play. Outstanding fifties UK pressing & great sound.
