Up for auction is a very rare example of Thelonious Monk's LP "Monk's Dream". It is an original MONO pressing from 1963 on Columbia records (CL 1965), and the record itself is still SEALED in its original bag/inner sleeve. I hesitate to call any record "mint" condition, but this is the closest you're probably ever going to find. No only that, the record jacket is in incredibly well-preserved shape. Every copy I've ever seen of this record has very noticeable ring wear. This copy, as you can see from the photo, has only the faintest amount near the top of Monk's signature hat. Also, there is a slight white mark in the lower right hand corner, but it's hardly noticeable. The back cover is in equally beautiful condition, very white paper with no browning or discolorations, no ring wear, or writing. The seams are tight with no tears, chipping, or rubbing. The corners are sharp, with no bumping or signs of wear. Obviously, the record cannot be play tested because it is still sealed, and consequently the labels are perfect. I'm hesitant to grade this record based on Goldmine standards. Instead, I've described it to the best of my ability--and I've been collecting records for 30 years, so if anything, I tend to grade records very conservatively unlike many other sellers. And I know that many jazz collectors are sticklers for details. It's unlikely that you'll find another copy like this anytime soon.
