Description

Thelonious Monk Brilliant Corners 1958 1st Stereo Press Riverside DG VG-/VG-.

For auction is a good listeners copy of Brilliant Corners by legendary American jazz pianist and composer, Thelonious Monk. Released in April 1957 in mono form only and then in stereo in 1958. It was Monk’s third album on the Riverside label but the first to include his original compositions. The record also features other iconic jazz artists such as Sonny Rollins on tenor sax and Max Roach on drums. Brilliant Corners is considered one of Monk’s signature works and is often mentioned as one of the best jazz records of all time. In 1999 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and in 2003 it was chosen for preservation by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Recording Registry. This copy is a 1st stereo press from 1958 with black Riverside DG label.

Vinyl is play graded VG-. Spindle marks on both labels. Many light visible surface marks but nothing deep that can be felt. Plays with consistent mild background noise that is never overwhelming but definitely apparent. No skips or jumps. Still an enjoyable listen. Please see pics.

Cover is also in VG- condition. Considerable shelf wear on corners and seams. All three edges have tape over splits. The title edge has it along 3/4 of it, but the title is still mostly legible. The top has half of the seam from the open edge covered and the bottom 2/3 of it is tapped. All corners have small dents. Ring wear and scuffing on both front and back. Please see pics.

Good luck bidding and thank you for looking!!
