Description

This one is painful. Plenty of bands have had stories of failure, gigging and struggling and breaking up, and then maybe they're rediscovered later on, and gain a following. Sometimes, as with VU or the Stooges, the afterlife is much bigger than the original career ever was. Big Star is like that too, though still not universally known, and I remember reading an interview with Chris Stamey, describing how with his new band, the dB's, they had really studied the mistakes Big Star made in their career, and they were going to avoid all those pitfalls and make it big!
That story, though it ended up ironic, does at least tell you that this band was aiming for immortality, and knew they deserved it. Their first two albums, "Stands for Decibels" and this one, are honestly incredible for songwriting and production and edgy creative melodies. It hurts to listen to it because it really should have been widely loved, instead of this one-pressing vinyl obscurity. They must be as baffled as Big Star ever was--"how could this stuff be any better? Are we wrong about it somehow? What happened here?"
I can't answer that question either, but remain grateful for the brilliant songs on here, especially the Chris Stamey ones about love affairs crumbled and crashed. Maybe those are about him and his music.
The vinyl is pristine; there's a few slight creases to the sleeve but nothing that would jump out at you. NM/NM and free postage and insurance of course.
