Another from my personal collection.  This being released in 1971 over 47 years ago! 1st UK pressing of The Who "Who's Next" album. This album was originally only ever played perhapesa handful of times and to to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. This is an early 1st UK variation so rare to find this mega earliest variation 'Machine Stamped ' -A#1, -B#2  matrix endings variation   There is barely a handfull of visable spider traces around the spindle hole just about seen on side 2.  The audio is so rich and vibrant it nearly shook the house down. One of the most vibrant sounding copies that I have ever heard!  (Note: Alowances must be made for these early seventies Track Records pressings isolated static type ticks, pops and crackle are common. This is complete with the original Headhunters sleeve which does have wear and tear with age in the form of a staining noted.  I would grade the cover at least better than excellent to excellent plus exceptional condition lovely clean 1st UK issue see photos! Who's Next is the fifth studio album by English rock band the Who.




It developed from the aborted Lifehouse project, a multi-media rock opera written by the group's Pete Townshend as a follow-up to the band's 1969 album Tommy.



The project was cancelled owing to its complexity and to conflicts with Kit Lambert, the band's manager, but Townshend was persuaded the group should record the songs as a straightforward studio album.




The Who recorded Who's Next with assistance from recording engineer Glyn Johns.




After producing the song "Won't Get Fooled Again" in the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, they relocated to Olympic Studios to record and mix most of the album's remaining songs. They made prominent use of synthesizer on the album, particularly on "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley", which were both released as singles.




The cover photo was shot by Ethan Russell; it made reference to the monolith in the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, as it featured group members standing by a concrete piling protruding from a slag heap, apparently having urinated against it.



Who's Next was an immediate success when it was released in August 1971. It has since been viewed by many critics as the Who's best record and one of the greatest albums of all time. It was reissued on CD several times, with additional songs originally intended for Lifehouse.





By 1970, the Who had obtained significant critical and commercial success, but they had started to become detached from their original audience. The mod movement had vanished, and the original followers from Shepherd's Bush had grown up and acquired jobs and families.




The group had started to drift apart from manager Kit Lambert, owing to his preoccupation with their label, Track Records.



They had been touring since the release of Tommy the previous May, with a set that contained most of that album, but realized that millions had now seen their live performances, and Pete Townshend in particular recognized that they needed to do something new.[8] A single, "The Seeker", and a live album, Live at Leeds, were released in 1970, and an EP of new material ("Water", "Naked Eye", "I Don't Even Know Myself", "Postcard" and "Now I'm a Farmer") was recorded, but not released as the band felt it would not be a satisfactory follow-up to Tommy.



The cover artwork shows a photograph, taken at Easington Colliery, of the band apparently having just urinated on a large concrete piling protruding from a slag heap.



The decision to shoot the picture came from Entwistle and Moon discussing Stanley Kubrick and the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. According to photographer Ethan Russell, most of the band members found themselves unable to urinate, so rainwater was tipped from an empty film canister to achieve the desired effect. The rear cover showed the band backstage at De Montfort Hall, Leicester, amongst a debris of furniture. In 2003, the television channel VH1 named Who's Next's cover one of the greatest album covers of all time.





Other suggestions for the cover included the group urinating against a Marshall Stack and an overweight nude woman with the Who's faces in place of her genitalia. An alternative cover featuring Moon dressed in black lingerie and a brown wig, holding a whip, was later used for the inside art for the 1995 and 2003 CD releases. Some of the photographs taken during these sessions were later used as part of Decca's United States promotion of the album.

The Vinyl
The vinyl retains its original sheen from new! This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free of warping!
On initial inspection this looks awesome, only in strong light or under a lamp could possibly any surface marks be possibly be seen, mainly sleeve removal marks (non audio sounding)  The audio is awesome on all frequenies! Cristal clear and vibrant with (no) signs of distiortion or that this has been over played at all! Importantly there are marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps This vinyl has barely ever been played no more than a handful of times ever!
The Audio quality I have played the record at high volume on a top system and fully recorded the record for you to hear for yourself in the player provided above. The audio is crystal clear and very vibrant throughout! There is no distortion or any signs that this has been overplayed at all! Any static /crackle heard was only at some intros and in between some tracks only , (common on this pressing) I would grade the audio at excellent plus to very near mint in my opinion! (Very hard to find like this!)



Please note! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album ! haveing played the vinyls through track for trak befor listing! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd static crackle\tick (not consistant through out the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 47 year old abum (not a reissue) that would have been originally played on a 47 year old system! TOP! TOP! AUDIO ON ALL FREQUENCIES! THIS WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS!
Point to note! I have played these vinyls prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system! I have owned this album from new and this has only ever been played a handful of times ever!
Please note! This has been stored in a case for most of its storage life and has been laying dormant! From my experiance this would benefit from a constant clean before each play! ,,, Build up of dirt and dust over a period causes static crackle\ticks! onstant cleaning greatly reduces this and greatly improves the audio quality!

The Labels These are the oiriginal 1st issue rough textured Track Records Labels! Barely a handful of spider traces can just be seen on side two if looked for angled to the light! This has only been played a handful of times only! Very rare to find like this!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original Head Hunters advertizing serpiers sleeve! Please note: There is a brown stain noted on one side at the top opening edge looks like a coffee stain. There is light general wear/fading with age a small cigarette burn stain is noted. This is the original.  The vinyl is now always stored seperately from the cover!

The original  1st UK issue 1st UK press un-laminated MacNeil Press cover is awesome (rarely seen like this) Unbeleivable to find like this after 47 years old! NO NASTY RINGWARE! Pinched ended spine (Only 1st UK issues) The vinyl has always been stored seperately from the cover! This is how i have always stored my records! Not real nasty creases to mention. Light creasing noted at the spine on the front but not noticed unless looked for in my opinion. All text can be read at the spine! Light creasing at the spine but no real rubbing to mention which is rare to find after 47 years. The rear is exceptionally clean, being primarily black is hard to find like this. Any indents or rubbing wear noticed you would have lok look toi notice in my opinion Graded at least better than excellent to excellent plus in my opinion.
