Description
An original 1st press of QUAD on the UK Track label. Matrix A1/B1-A1/B2 [ALL Delta symbols]. As I under stand it this is the absolute 1st iteration - nothing exists earlier than this. Make sure you're getting a true first pressing... The labels should be Matt and flat...i.e. not shiny...and not ridged. Why is this a big deal? Because the 1st copies are that bit nearer the original masters and they were pressed heavier. The net result - much better sound! The vinyl comes housed in an original soft card cover - these are the genuine 1st issue. Due to the way they were manufactured it is hellishly difficult to find an even ok looking copy. We also have the original plastic bag warning inner sleeves. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) A sparingly played copy - it has certainly been well cared for. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - and one 2mm small white mark on the 2nd disc [which does sound see below>]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one audible deviation. I've had a couple of copies before like this one - and let me tell you 'they are a revelation'. The audio is to die for - everything is there in the audio. Detail, depth, energy and a lovely quiet background. All the ingredients for a mind-blowing rendition. Give a cheaper non-1st copy a go if you like. But I can assure you - if you care about your audio - money would be far better invested here. This baby plays clean into all areas - those slow builds are all lovely and clean. I'm struggling to pick out much background at all. I'll do the usual caveat - maybe you'll pick out a few isolated crackles in one isolated spot per side. Truly a superb rendition. The only deviation is the mark mentioned above which is predominantly in the gap between in the tracks 1 & 2. I'm very thankful it was in the gap! Essentially the track '5:15' finishes - and you will get 4 pops [one immediately after the other]. The final two will be audible at the start of the "seagull and seaside" background audio intro to the next track. I.e. it's not actually affecting any actual 'in-track' audio/music - which is extremely lucky. If you can live with that one 2mm mark [which, to be honest, is very visible] - the remaining 99.9% of the record is an absolute feast for the ears! If you rate this Lp as highly as I do - you will not be wanting to compromise. Get the cleanest early copy you can get your hands on. Very Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex-) A bit of a looker and let me tell you - it ain't easy finding these soft-card covers [particularly quad] -looking anywhere near this good. That front will normally exhibit surface wear of some description. But this example - whilst not perfect - does not exhibit any surface wear on the front or rear [that in itself is highly unusual]. There's no creasing front or rear either. Edge wear is very light for this title. The spine is in really good order with just light wear at the ends - all text fully legible. The interior is in excellent order - much much better than you typically find. The main section of the internal booklet nearly always falls out - and this example is no exception. It has detached in one complete piece leaving the opening page in place. The pages are all intact and have not been heavily thumbed. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very appealing early copy of this highly sought after WHO classic.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
