I bought this LP new (in Leeds of course) in May 1970, the moment it was released. It is therefore one of the very earliest UK pressings.
The front cover is stamped in black. The stamp looks very much like it was applied by hand, as the ink has smudged and run on some of the letters - the I and the A in particular - (as well as the usual unprinted patches), and there are clear signs that the left-hand side was initially applied in the wrong place, then moved further left.
I have read that only the first 500 pressings were hand-stamped, but I don't know this for sure. I can't be certain this is one of them, but the stamp doesn't look like others I've seen.
I've also read that the very first pressings were on heavier weight vinyl than the later ones. This naked vinyl weighs 131 grams, so I really don't know whether this is the heavier type, or whether this only applied to the US pressings anyway, which were released first.
The matrix between the run-off groove and the label reads A//1 1 1 (see photo 2) on side 1, and B//1 1 1 on side 2, so again I think this indicates the very earliest pressing.
I also understand that the earliest labels were printed a slightly darker blue than the later ones, but I have nothing to compare mine with, so again don't know what mine is or whether this was for the US release also.
No doubt there are experts reading this who will be able to confirm my thoughts, or put me right if necessary.
All the inserts and the poster are present and correct, and in excellent clear and bright condition, the lightweight items slightly creased in the corners.
The front cover shows brown ageing to the top and left edges, a crease across the corner above the stamp, a small tear about 7mm/¼" on the top edge, and a water stain on the right edge. The inside is clean and bright, the back shows a little dirt, no writing anywhere. The staples are not rusty.
I bought this LP to play it and I've played it maybe 20 or 30 times, always on good equipment. There are light spindle marks on the labels, BUT NO SCRATCHES AT ALL. At first glance the vinyl appears to be in really excellent condition, but there is just one very small scuff (about 3mm) near the start of side 2, no skips or jumps, just light snap, crackle and pop sounds in the quieter sections throughout.
