THE WHO & OTHERS
This ultra-rare 1-sided 12" EMI test-pressing of the BBC transcription service radio show 'Top of the Pops' dates from 27th September 1966.
Top of the Pops was weekly a 1-hour radio music program hosted by Brian Matthew featuring selections from recording sessions at BBC studios for syndication/export outside the UK only by the top pop acts of the day. Many recordings on these discs remain officially unavailable today.
This disc features the first half of show #99, broadcast in October 1966, and includes live, in-the-studio performances, all introduced by 'your resident president', Brian Matthew:

Gordon Waller - Interview (mostly about why Pete Asher is absent from the session)
Gordon Waller (solo) - 'Lady Godiva'.
Cryin' Shames - 'Circles' (Who cover).
The Rothchilds - Interview & 'Artificial City'.
The Searchers - 'Take It or Leave It'
The Who - Pete Townshend interview followed by an outstanding performance 'I'm A Boy'.
Machine stamped matrices:
Side 1: 12FPM 117850 B & BBC
Side 2: LPFB 2 (plays a continuous test signal)
A 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the playing side label.
The disc is housed in its original factory sleeve with the matrix number written on one side along & the date stamp '27 September 1966'.

Both are clean & unblemished with just 2/3 light spindle trails around the centre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT +
Immaculate, deep-gloss playing surfaces where the only traces of use are 2/3 light scuffs from the few times this disc has been taken out of its inner-sleeve.
Audio: EXCELLENT +
Outstanding clean, clear & unworn sound quality throughout with no audible distractions of faults. This disc must be the best source possible for all of the rare material contained on this disc.
