Description
Up for sale here is "The Wailing Wailers" on the Studio One label. SOLP 1001A and SOLP 1001B etched in the trailoff. Over has "Lithographed in Jamaica by Stephensons" on back cover. Hopefully that is enough info for the hardcore collector to know which pressing this is. If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I have seen ones with similar labels selling in the $200-$500 range depending on condition. The LP has the usual pitting and dimples of Jamaican pressings from the era. My guess is that it was VG when it came off the presses. This one also has 4 long ugly marks (see 4th photo), but those do not sound. Overall, I would say the playgrade is somewhere in the VG/VG+ range with some light clicks and pops and maybe 4 medium volume clicks scattered around the whole album. It's a very pleasant listen (despite the primitiveness of the recordings). This album is a collection of singles and as such, the recording quality changes quite a bit from track to track....that is normal and they are all like that. The cover has some light ringwear at top center and a small area of staining on back at lower right.
One buys this LP to hold a treasure in their collection.....there are better sounding versions of all the tracks represented here scattered over various records and CDs. But it's cool to own a vintage Jamaican pressing of the first long player from Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Shipping is $4 in the US (or $8 for Priority Mail), $14 to Canada and $24 to the rest of the world. Additional LPs are $1 each in the US, $3 to Canada and $6 each to the rest of the world. I pack records outside of the covers to protect the seams from splitting. They are shipped in dedicated record mailers with padded inserts. I spend a lot of time and money on shipping with care so your record looks as good when it arrives as it did when it left.
