Original 1st US Mono release of The Velvet Underground & Nico with Andy Warhol’s iconic pop art banana sticker released by Verve Records on March 12, 1967. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to assume that the currently listed copy is one of the last examples remaining in the factory sealed condition. This is one of the earliest copies pressed in March~June, 1967 when Verve Records withdrew the album in June due to the lawsuit threat by actor Eric Emerson whose upside-down image projected behind the band was used on the album’s back cover without his consent. After the album was withdrawn by Verve, the company affixed a large black sticker to the already existing covers on the top of the image and airbrushed it completely on the subsequent pressings. Original withdrawn 1st state uncensored gatefold cover with Andy Warhol’s iconic concept art banana sticker. Outstanding copy of one of the most influential rock and pop albums which occupies the 13th spot in the Rolling Stone Magazine’s “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. We’ve included into this listing a very rare original 1967 “The Village Voice” newspaper published on March 9, three days before the release of “The Velvet Underground & Nico”, and containing an advert of the album with the headline reading “So Far Underground, You Get The Bends!” as well as several other adverts related to Andy Warhol, The Velvet Underground and Nico.

Amazing factory sealed copy in vintage Mint Minus condition. Aside from some very light, small and insignificant age discoloration spots at the bottom left and right corner of the front cover and the top right corner of the back cover, the album is in truly pristine condition with a rigid thick spine and edges. The shrink wrap is fully intact and doesn’t have any splits, tears or missing pieces containing the original breathe holes, two on each side of the album. This insanely rare factory sealed copy represents one of the best examples of this album that we’ve come across with in many years.
