Description
This auction is for an original 45 RPM record titled Wind In My Sails by The Superbs, with the flip side Your Eyes. It's on the Dore label, and the number is 872.
I'm not a record dealer, but I've been buying and collecting records since I was 10 years old in 1963 (yes, I'm a geezer). I also have several jukeboxes that I play my records in. I'm no expert on grading, but I'll do my best to honestly describe the condition. The labels on both sides show a good amount of wear and fading, but have no writing or tags on them. On the vinyl, the best thing I can say is that at least there are no cracks or chips, and the record lays fairly flat. There are lots of scratches, some of them pretty big, which I've tried my best to show in the pictures.
Playing this record on my 1970's era home stereo set up, Wind In My Sails plays all the way through with no skips. Your Eyes will sometimes play all the way through with no skips, but there are a couple of spots that do sometimes skip. I don't know if skip is the right word, as it doesn't actually skip ahead, it just keeps playing the same groove over and over. Both sides have noticeable undesirable background noise. When I played this record in my 1955 AMI G-120 jukebox, which has a heavier tone arm than the home stereo (see second to last pic), both sides played all the way through without skipping. The jukebox also does a better job of filtering out some of the background noise. How well it plays on your system may depend on the weight and pressure of your tone arm.
Copies of this record don't come up for sale very often in any condition. Popsike, a popular record collector website that tracks sales of rare records online, shows the last time one of these sold was 5 years ago in March of 2020 (see last pic).
