This gloriously scrappy BL captures The Stone Roses right at the moment they were breaking through, all swagger, chaos, and untamed brilliance. Sourced from a battered audience tape, the recording comes complete with every pop, squeal, hiss, wobble, and glorious bit of tape damage imaginable. Audiophiles may clutch their pearls, but on vinyl it sounds absolutely fantastic, the warmth of the record somehow turning the grit and distortion into part of the experience rather than a flaw.
What makes this bootleg essential is the glimpse it gives into a band becoming legendary in real time, with raw early versions of songs that would later become classics, alongside two unreleased tracks, “The Sun Will Shine” and “Your Time Will Come,” both long treasured by collectors and tape traders.
And just when you think it could not get any better, the record also includes a recording from Sweden in 1985, catching the band deep in their punky, gothic phase darker, sharper, and far more feral than the jangling groove machine they would soon become. It is messy, moody, loud, occasionally barely holding together… and completely outstanding.
A proper BL masterpiece.
