Description
This is a superb quality original and FIRST PRESS mono recording of The Spencer Davis Group THE SECOND ALBUM, released in 1966 on Fontana (TL 5295).
Matrices - Side one: 687362 1L//1 420 Side two: 687362 2L//1 420
Except for the first digit (1) the stamper codes aren't very clear on either side - I've checked under a magnifying glass and on the first side the other two codes appear to be 2 and 7 and on the second side 2 and 3.
This album, which includes their first UK No.1 Keep On Running, was only released in minimal amounts and then deleted, so is very rare to find, especially in as good a condition as this.
The sleeve is in excellent condition, with a shiny front showing little sign of its age. There is no noticeable ring wear, minimal creasing near the spine and a couple of other slight creases, but this is a nice front, as can be seen from the photo. The back is very clean, with sound flipbacks and no markings of any kind. The spine has 4 tiny nicks, two of which can be seen on the 3rd photo, but otherwise is in good condition. There is very slight scuffing under the bottom left edge of the sleeve. I'm being as honest as I can be here, but all in all I have to say that this is an excellent sleeve. The original poly-lined inner is also in good condition with just the beginning of a tear top front.
The vinyl is lovely and shiny. On the first side to my naked eye there are 3 very faint scratches, but I can't see any on the second side. I've listened to both sides through headphones and the first side is virtually free from crackle, even between tracks - the second side has slightly more, but I'm being ultra cautious in my description and in all honesty there is nothing here to cause the slightest concern. There is no wear around the spindle hole and the labels are clean and fresh. All in all this is a superb vinyl.
This is the second and last of my Spencer Davis albums and I hate to see them go, but I'm sure that there are collectors of good 1960's vinyl out there who would love to have this in their collection, and I'm confident that it will go to a good home.
