The Smiths - 'Shoplifters of the World Unite' US-Only Promo 12" - 1987

This unusual one-track promotional 12" of 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' was released only in the USA in 1987 to promote the 'Louder Than Bombs' LP, with which it shares its orange-tinted colour scheme artwork. What makes this item so collectable is the unique picture sleeve, which is one of the very few original and official Smiths releases to feature members of the band on the cover. The artwork featured on the sleeve does not appear on any other release. Just like the rare Sire promotional release of 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' which had a modification of 'The Queen Is Dead' cover, this release has the strange distinction of being completely white on the reverse of the sleeve. This promotional 12" was listed in Record Collector's Smiths Top 100 rarities at Number 54, though it is far more interesting and appears to be genuinely rarer than many of the items listed above it and is certain to continue rising in value. It is a record which is rarely seen for sale, an indication of its true value amongst collectors, and it is certainly a pleasure to own.The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with just the lightest of 'hairline' surface marks visible in a few places if the glossy vinyl is held to the light; it has probably been played once or twice at most. The sleeve is in excellent condition, with just some very mild corner-wear and one 'bump' to the top left corner. Other than this, there are no significant creases visible at all; and just one or two extremely small patches where mild 'rubbing' is visible. There are no marks on the plain white reverse side and there is no writing and no splits or tears anywhere on this terrifically-rare sleeve. It really is very well preserved. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
