Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
The Smiths - 'Shoplifters of the World Unite' Promo US 12" - 1987
Catalogue no. PRO-A-2712 - Sire Records
This terrific promotional-only 12" pressing of 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' is unusual in that it is one of the few promotional 12"s released in the US which were produced with their own picture sleeve. The sleeve is even more unusual in that it features an image of the band, which is particularly rare for officially-released Smiths material. The image which was used was taken outside the 'Salford Lads Club', but at a different time to the session which was used for the inside-gatefold artwork of 'The Queen Is Dead', as indicated by the snow on the ground in the photograph used here. The artwork is particularly collectable as it does not appear on any other release, and comes in a superb shade of orange to match the 'Louder Than Bombs' artwork which it was intended to promote. Just like the equally rare Sire promotional release for 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out', which had a modification of the green 'The Queen Is Dead' cover, this sleeve has the strange distinction of being completely white on the reverse. This promotional 12" was listed in Record Collector's Smiths Top 100 rarities in 2005 at Number 54, and thereafter at Number 59 in 2014, though it is far more interesting and appears less commonly for sale than many of the items which are listed above it. This is an original and rare 1980s genuine Smiths promotional 12", which is a pleasure to own and is becoming harder and harder to obtain in the sort of collectable condition which is offered here (see below). The vinyl and labels are in exceptional near mint condition, appearing completely unplayed and having barely even any 'hairline' superficial surface marks on the highly-glossy vinyl and no marks at all on the labels. The original anti-static round-bottom inner sleeve is present and intact, and the terrific unique outer sleeve is in at least strong excellent condition with no creases at all and just some very mild 'corner wear' in a few places. The sleeve remains flat and has no discernable wear to the edges and has no seam-splitting at all; a first-class example of this superb rarity. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.20 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
