Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe the condition of all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
The Smiths - 'Barbarism Begins At Home' German 12'' - 1985
Catalogue No. RTD 021T - Rough Trade
'Barbarism Begins At Home' was never released as a single (beyond demonstration stage) on vinyl in the UK, only in Germany (7" and 12") and Italy (7" only). This is the 12" version of the German release and is now becoming extremely rare, being one of the earlier releases in 1985 with many copies being played and discarded before the Smiths became truly collectable. The sleeve artwork consists of the sought-after iconic yellow and black Morrissey-designed Viv Nicholson sleeve in all its 12" glory(!) and the B-sides are 'Shakespeare's Sister' and 'Stretch Out And Wait'. This is a release which is highly-prized amongst collectors, primarily for the sleeve artwork, and this one is even accompanied by a rare poster depicting the same sleeve artwork. The poster measures 16" x 12" and is therefore a different size to the standard Rough Trade promotional posters. Although it is not clear whether this was indeed issued by Rough Trade at all, it is clearly professionally printed and is very likely not a recent print otherwise many of these would be turning up for sale which is not the case. Since the poster is in a beautiful un-folded state, being an ideal candidate for framing, it will be sent separately to the 12" rolled in a poster tube to preserve its condition. Note that the corners of the poster are held down by pound coins in the pictures (not included in the auction!).The vinyl is in a remarkable near mint condition, with no surface marks at all other than the occasional very light 'hairline' mark which can be seen if the record is held to the light. It is very likely unplayed, and the labels have no marks on them at all. The vinyl retains its new-looking glossy sheen. The sleeve is in excellent condition, having one 1/2" 'cutout' towards the top left of the sleeve indicating that the record was originally sold at a discount or offered as a promotional item. Other than this there are no major signs of wear to the sleeve, which retains its glossy appearance. The edges are sharp with no seam splits, and the record has been stored outside of the sleeve to avoid such splitting (and will be posted this way). There is some very light wear to the corners only, and would be near-mint were it not for the 'cutout' mentioned above. The poster is in immaculate unfolded and unhung state, and will be posted rolled up to keep it this way. Please see the accompanying photos; note that the ID lettering is just on the pictures and not the items themselves.
