INCREDIBLY SCARCE DEBUT ALBUM FROM THE SLITS
(Some issues so please read carefully)
Formed in 1977 with a relatively fluid line-up, The Slits were quite late to record, but this collection is all the better for that delay, since they had time to form associations with those who could help them produce a much better record.
The album was released extensively worldwide through Island's usual distribution network and has since been re-mastered, mainly for CD format. To my knowledge, there are three 1979 UK versions out there with this catalogue number.
One version with band member silhouettes on the labels, one version without the silhouettes and a Test Pressing. (There's also SLITS LP1 - a bootleg with two extra tracks.)
This copy doesn't quite fit neatly into any of the above. I have never seen one like this with a silhouette on one label, but not on the other.
There may be hundreds out there for all I know - but I've yet to see another!

Vinyl: VG+ (Just) It's a relatively clean looking piece of vinyl for its 37 years. There are plenty of superficial surface marks and for the most part, it plays really well. There is some background crackle and hiss that occasionally leaks through the audio track during the quieter parts. Side two also has two particular flaws; track 1 - Newtown - has a definite repeating "click" for the first 35 seconds, and track 4 - Typical Girls - sticks about a quarter way through.
The labels are custom-designed Island company labels, side one in a lighter shade of blue than side two. Both labels carry the small Island "I" logo in front of a palm tree with setting/rising sun backgrounds. Label-text is black. Both sides carry the band name in large lower case font at the nine o'clock position, and the three band member silhouettes are present ON SIDE ONE ONLY.
Sleeve: VG++ Great condition sleeve - infamous for the topless mud-caked photo design, which caused quite a furore back in the day! Laminated front and rear & completely intact. Slight edge-wear and a corner crease developing. It comes complete with the stiff card inner sleeve containing line drawn cartoons & illustrations.
In summary - it's a ridiculously scarce collector's item from the punk era with the added feature of an unusual label mis-match.
It has some minor imperfections, so if you're after a Near Mint or Excellent reproduction, then maybe go for a CD copy or one of the new 180g vinyl re-issues, or pay a small fortune for one of the very few original 1979 copies that occasionally show up.
If however, you can live with the minor flaws, then maybe this is for you.
