Considered by many be their masterpiece, the second album by Japans masters of doom, The Second Coming, has been out of print for many years and original copies are now highly priced collectors items. It was originally released in 2004 in very small quantities in Japan and France. Featuring a cover of Cactus classic One Way or Another, the rest of the album is drenched in typical blooded-soaked murder tales of the worlds sickest serial killers unspeakable acts against mankind. Heavy as Hell!

Since its initial release, Church of Misery’s fan base has grown to a very respectable status around the world. Rise Above Records is delighted to present this Doom Sludge classic in re-mastered with four extra tracks (three exclsive to the vinyl edition) and redesigned packaging. Stay Heavy!

Master of Brutality is the debut album by the Japanese Stoner/Doom Metal band Church of Misery. Five of the six tracks are based on and titled after infamous serial killers, Edmund Kemper, Peter Sutcliffe, Herbert Mullin, and John Wayne Gacy. The instrumental track “Green River” is inspired by serial killer Gary Leon Ridgeway The first track “Killifornia” contains audio of spoken words by Ed Kemper.

Originally released on Southern Lord Records back in 2001, Master of Brutality reached number 17 in the Terrorizer magazine albums of the year. Featuring a cover of Blue Oyster Cult classic Cities on Flame, the rest of the album is drenched in typical blooded-soaked murder tales of the worlds sickest serial killers unspeakable acts against mankind. Church of Misery (Ch?chi obu Mizar?) is a doom metal band from Tokyo, Japan. Church of Misery’s style melds early-era Black Sabbath style doom with psychedelic rock.

Most songs by Church of Misery are about serial killers and mass murderers. After several releases on small independent record labels, they released the EP Murder Company on Man’s Ruin Records, then moved on to Southern Lord Records to release their debut full-length album, Master of Brutality. In 2004 they released their second full-length album, The Second Coming. That same year Japan’s Leaf Hound Records released a compilation of the band’s early works. They released three split EPs, two with Sourvein and one with Deer Creek, and a live DVD of their 2005 European tour. They played the Roadburn Festival in 2009.
