Description
No need to talk about the music and how great this album is, but in the last 40 years there have been dozens of reissues and remasters and the real subject becomes, which pressing is worth checking out? Though there have been a couple of good quality reissues the one that most fans and audiophiles continue to seek out is an early UK 1st pressing.
Having heard several early first UK pressings the one thing they all seem to have in common is a kind of "heaviness" or dense quality in the sound of the bass and drums and their positioning with the rest of the instruments. It may not be the ideal sound or mix for some but this "imperfection" if you will, is precisely what perpetuates the enduring mystique of the sound of this particular pressing. At loud volume this pressing is pure vintage vinyl magic.
Cover: Excellent(-) ....undoubtedly the most famous cover art of any Stones album...and few original vintage covers survive this nicely. The only real issues are a couple of creases in and around the "buckle" area and a minor tear at the very top. The spine is near perfect...as are all 4 corners. The back cover is incredibly clean. The small 1st version zipper is fully functional.
Original Inner-Sleeve: VG.....some age discoloration and creasing and a seam split at the bottom center. A higher quality inner will be included to house the precious record.
Original Double-Sided Insert: Near Mint....slightly textured and printed on heavy bond; nearly card stock.
Record: Excellent to Near Mint ..... both sides shine beautifully under strong light. Both labels are in wonderful condition...and do not have "Promotone BV" text....therefore, true first press. There are a few areas where some superficial marks can be seen but have little to no effect on playback. A few light ticks are heard in the final 20 seconds of the song, 'Wild Horses'...but it is a very minor issue. The rest of the album plays to near perfection. Very strong audio....and at times a literal "wall of sound".
