Description

An original 1967 Flowers 1st press on the USA London label. Matrix A1/B1. Look at the label layout on this copy...and how small much of the text is. That's because initial copies had to include a rather lengthy publishing credit 'Gideon Music Corp - BMI'...bit of a mouthful! Later copies mention just 'BMI' - which was the parent company and fits in a lot easier! Note the colour of the label - maroon ..and there's an inner groove exhibiting too. These earlier mono copies exhibit the 'LL' prefix at the front of the catalogue number. The LP comes housed in an original mono pasted back-image cover. The mention of 'mono' and the paste-over design is very strictly only found in the sixties.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one tiny deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. There's not much dislike in this mono mix - it's a very sweet player. And the audio, importantly, is clean and I'm picking up very little background. I can't fault it really it's a great little player. Expect a touch of lightest static in a couple of isolated moments - very little at all. Even 'Lady Jane' THE fussiest track plays back really very cleanly indeed. The only slightest deviation is a couple of light ticks in 'Mother's Little Helper'..other than that it's a very impressive rendition indeed. Even in the low-key fussy tracks just some nice clean well resolved audio. Sweet!
Cover (Ex-) Anyone familiar with these early paste-over covers will know only too well how hard it is to find well preserved copies. They just weren't manufactured to survive the passage of 50+ years. But every now and again and a copy surfaces that has been really carefully looked after. I've taken as many photos as I can particularly at the edges to try and convey that this copy is very very well preserved. A nice clean and unaged front and rear without creasing. The only vaguely obvious issue is some sticker residue on the rear in the top left corner, and just a touch bottom right corner on the front. As you can see from the pics edge wear is very limited...much less than what you tend to see. The spine is not perfect, but it's way better than what typically surfaces. The text is mostly still legible. Thanks to the heavy-card employed in manufacture the cover still retains excellent rigidity. Nice!
