Description

An original 1st press of 'BIG HITS' on the UK Decca label from Xmas 1966. Matrix 1A/4A. Please note the Decca deep groove which is indicative of 1st issue. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Mono gatefold cover - not a peephole version like the later copies. Also included is an original Decca inner sleeve from the late sixties. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection we can only make out a few light marks, and a few very slight radial marks [in Rooster] - nothing heavy and nothing that features in the audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. Do bear in mind that so so many of these greatest hits LPs have been played to death over the years. Finding a little abused copy is not all that easy. 'Lady Jane' is the test track and it plays nice and clean [much better than you usually find]. I did detect a couple of ticks midway through - but this track plays really well. And so does 'Tears Go By'. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Interference is very limited in nature. You might detect a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side - but it is a real quality player. For an original 1st issue a very solid and impressive rendition throughout.
Cover (Ex-) In lovely condition and has been looked after down the years. Nice clean front with only one minor issue - a bit of creasing in that top right corner. The interior looks great too - much better than you typically find. All pages are still stapled in fine and intact - no signs of heavy thumbing. Edge wear is very minor for this title and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A lovely specimen.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
