Very rare and hard to find The Return of Art Pepper on the ultra hard to find Jazz West label. This record lists for $600 in Goldmine and is worth it. This record has been reissued on the Score and other labels but this is THE original pressing from 1956. Art plays with Leroy Vinnegar, Jack Sheldon, Russ Freeman and Shelly Manne. The LP itself is in really great shape, VG++, and the rarity of this record will be the case here. As stated above, the cover has traces of tape around the edges on both sides and some light edge wear. On the back it says an Audiographic Recording Jazz:West JWLP-10. See labels above for labels and covers, just a great sounding record, graded audibly and sounds great on both sides. Red label deep groove on both sides. JWLP-10 12" 186 stamped in the dead wax. Very reasonable starting price for this ultra rare LP, grab this one now. Satisfaction guaranteed. Cover has some wear from age, old tape around the edges but record in really nice condition and a true classic LP. PayPal preferred and overseas bids welcome.
"Deep grooves" were a single, large circular single-groove indentation on the label (not to be confused with an early explanation in Goldmine or a similar record collector's book, which explained it as a depression near the spindle hole about the size of a quarter, LOL!), as it is pictured in earlier posts of this thread. Even the dimensions of the "deep groove" pressings varied from plant to plant. On pressings by Columbia (not only in Pitman, but also to a degree up to the early 1970's in Terre Haute, IN), the outer diameter was 2.71875", the inner diameter 2.6875", and the radius of the thickness of that deep groove was 0.046875." RCA pressings generally had an outer diameter of 2.8125" and an inner diameter of 2.71875". Sometimes it varied by about 0.015625" diameter upwards.
