Description
A few weeks ago, I got a call from an old friend who'd been a part of the Sydney inner city punk/indie scene from about 1977-84 (his older brother was in a great Detroit-style garage-punk band at the time)...anyway he was clearing house and wanted to get rid of his record collection. So I bought it all. He's a cool guy who'd had a passion for the whole tribal Aussie punk/indie/Detroit-inspired/Radio Birdman thing, plus the post-punk/synth/'little bands'/M Squared scene too and had bought a lot of classics at the time...plus other random goodies of minimal rarity but high on quality - it's great stuff...I remember he used to shop at Phantom a lot, a few even have old Phantom price stickers on them still - I left them on.
Anyway, this record below is one of that collection:
ARTIST: The RIPTIDES -
TRACKS: "TOMORROW'S TEARS" / "SOME OTHER GUY".
FORMAT: …vinyl 7" single…
LABEL: FLAT RECORDS .
CATALOGUE #: FLAT-1 .
DATE OF RELEASE: 14 Feb. 1980 .
PRESSED IN: AUSTRALIA .
ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?: Yes, it is!...
CONDITION:
COVER/VINYL: ( VG+[+] / VG+ )...record has a few light scuffs/marks only (nothing serious - this is still a decent copy)...and it plays very well (just has a few minor crackles only!). - This record was bought from Sydney indie/punk/alternative store Phantom Records, and it still has the round yellow hand-written original price sticker (written by co-owner Dare Jennings, later owner/director of the 100% Mambo clothing label, and now filling the same role with the Deus Ex Machina motorbike shops)...Dare was my partner in Phantom for the first 12 years, and back at this early stage, although not actually working in the shop - his textile-printing business was kicking off then - he'd come into the store every Thursday night (we'd stay open till 9pm), and help out with whatever needed doing and this is definitely his writing. (We eventually got a price gun that pumped out stickers with the shop name on it, but from when we opened in 1978 till about 1985, we handwrote every damn price sticker on every record we sold. I could've taken this one off, but figured you could do that if you wish....some folk might like the idea it's still on there.) Hard to believe it retailed for a mere $2.50 back then!
LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT )...
