Description
The Natural Four
Good Vibes
Original stereo pressing from 1967 on ABC Records, catalog #ABCS-706.
The vinyl close to mint, has that newish glossy look. The jacket has very light ringwear and edgewear, no splits.
This fine debut includes two of the three singles ("Why Should We Stop Now" and "I Thought You Were Mine") that were initially released on Willie Hoskins' Boola Boola Records. Includes fresh renditions of "Going in Circles," "Message From a Black Man," "Blue Velvet," "Hurt," and "All God's Children Got Soul." ABC omitted "You Did This for Me," the flip of their two Boola Boola singles, and their first ABC single, but this out-of-print album is still a find if you can obtain a copy. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
The Natural Four was founded in 1966. The founders were Ollan Christopher, A.k.a.; Chris James, John January, Allan Richardson and Alfred Milton Bowden, A.k.a.; Punkin. In 1967 they signed with a local label, Boola Boola Records and recorded their first single " I Thought You Were Mine" which became a local hit. They had the opportunity to perform with such artist as B.B. King, Sly Stone and The Pointer Sisters. They were also the opening act for such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, Etta James and Jimi Hendrix. In 1968 Otis Smith signed them to ABC Dunhill. They recorded one album while on ABC entitled Natural Four - Good Vibes. The single off the album "Why Should We Stop Now" went to number one on New York’s Top 10 Chart. In 1970 the group changed two of it’s members, John January and Allen Richardson. They were replaced by Steve Striplin and Delmos Whitley. From 1970 to 1971 the group toured the west coast.
