THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION Freak Out (U.S.) Verve V-5005-2 (Mono)
This is a stone original, near archive Mono 1966 U.S Verve press of The Mothers Of Invention's groundbreaking debut double lp, "Freak Out". The album that probably most challenged people's perception of mid-60s rock music. Chock full of influences ranging from Stravinsky to Dolphy (they are really not that far apart) to doo-wop, this album remains (for me, at least) ground zero for the neo-jazz-classical influenced rock 'n' roll movement.
Dead Wax Info: I can't be bothered to go through the motions, so I just stole this from Discogs. Matrices indicate first 1966 West Coast Verve pressing.
Vinyl Visual Grade: NM at best with great gloss and a few light marks. VERY FEW. Labels are pristine with maybe one or two short spindle marks. Played a couple of times. No More.
Vinyl Play Grade: NM with GREAT fidelity and very little noise. An excellent listening copy, probably as good as you will find of this pressing. I acquired this decades ago and have treated it as well as anything I have ever owned. Not sure if you could upgrade on this (unless you bought sealed).
Cover Visual Grade: VG+ or better with great gloss and very minor wear. There is a slight pressure mark top left to middle right beside the spine (storage). There is also some minor seam and ring wear. Nothing major. Corners are slightly aged but still very strong. A very nice example for a 50+ year old double gatefold paste-over cardboard outer. Inner gatefold of course has "Hot Spots" blurb (with spelling error "Bido Lito's").
Comes with both original Verve printed paper inners (VG+). Vinyl(s) are housed in rice-poly-lined die-cut heavy Audiophile inner sleeves.
Hello all. My name is Jamie and I have been collecting records for 40+ years. It is time to trim down my unmanageable inventory. My tastes run all over the sonic map, so there should be something for almost everyone.
ALL records will have been visually inspected under BRIGHT incandescent light with extreme scrutiny.
ALL open records will have been play graded using a Thorens TD 165 turntable and Yamaha amplifier (JBL reference headphones). Treble set high so nothing will be hidden in my grades. My grading is as follows:
M or Mint - NOT USED as there is no such thing as perfection.
NM or Near Mint - No significant markings - sealed or RARELY played.
VG+ - Minimal marking - none of which significantly affects fidelity of lp.
VG - Minimal to modest marking which affects lp but not to the point of distraction.
G - Modest marking but still VERY listenable, depending on your ears.
I WILL NOT SELL ANY LP AT LESS THAN G UNLESS THERE IS SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL VALUE ATTACHED TO THE LP.
ALL COVERS WILL HAVE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF ALL FLAWS.
I USE PROPER RECORD MAILERS WITH STIFFENERS AND PADDED CORNERS. I HAVE BOUGHT TOO MANY RECORDS ON EBAY WITH DINGED CORNERS FROM INSUFFICIENT PACKAGING. BY PADDING THE CORNERS WITH FOLDED BUBBLE WRAP (WHICH I DO) , YOU CAN BE SURE OF RECEIVING AN LP WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE CORNERS.
