The Magic Christians "Come And Get It" ACETATE Pressing. COMMONWEALTH UNLIMITED RECORDS. Northern Songs. Written by Paul McCartney. Produced by Gary Wright. Never Played. Good condition.It’s not clear how The Magic Christians came to record and release this song. Earlier in 1969 Paul McCartney had been commissioned to write the theme song for The Magic Christian, a film featuring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. The remaining songs for the soundtrack were to be written by Denny Laine and Trevor Burton (who are believed to form part of The Magic Christians).
But when comments about The Iveys (later to be called Badfinger) feeling neglected at Apple surfaced in the music press, Paul McCartney decided to become personally involved with re-launching the group and convinced the producers of the film to hire The Iveys to perform the theme song. The Iveys (as Badfinger) and Thunderclap Newman ended up providing most of the songs for the film.
So it’s likely The Magic Christians recorded their version to accompany the originally planned Laine and Burton songs for the soundtrack.
The track was released a week before Badfinger’s version and was produced by Gary Wright, later of Spooky Tooth. Paul McCartney produced the Badfinger version, a connection which, along with being released on The Beatles’ Apple label, probably influenced radio programme producers to play it.
