We specialize in selling LPs from serious private collections, and most of our records and covers are above the typical grade of those found in used record stores. We deal only in LP (33 rpm, 12”) recordings, using a fairly conservative method for grading the condition of each vinyl and its original cover. Each vinyl and cover is evaluated and graded separately, is visually inspected under bright neutral lighting, and is evaluated according to the grading system explained below.

Packing and Shipping:

LPs, covers, and original sleeves are packed in new record mailing boxes with added cushioning. To prevent damage to edges, we ship LPs in the sleeve outside the cover.

Our Grading Standards:

Near Mint (NM): Near Mint is our highest grade for a record that has been played. This means a vinyl LP is in its original condition and shows virtually no visual signs of defects or wear that would affect the quality of the sound. A Near Mint cover has minor (if any) surface rubbing or blemishes of any kind. The cover edges are fully intact and uncompromised, though covers with significant age almost always show some slight edge wear (even sealed and unopened records).

Near Mint Minus (NM –): Near Mint Minus is an exceptional grade of vinyl for a used LP, but it shows visible evidence that its has been played. This means a vinyl is nearly in its original condition and shows few visual signs of wear or defects that might affect the quality of the sound. A Near Mint Minus cover is exceptional, though with minor surface rubbing or blemishes. The cover edges typically show some edge wear, rubbing, and bumping.

Very Good plus (VG+): The condition is above average but certainly not mint. On the vinyl surface there might be slight wear or the edge and there may be visual marks, wear, and imperfections that will likely affect the sound. A “Very Good Plus” cover will also show obvious wear and imperfections. The cover surfaces (front or back) might have a moderate amount of rubbing or scuffing but no inking or intentional markings, and the edges will likely show bumps, rubbing, and/or weakening and spits at the outer edge seams. On box sets, a “Very Good Plus” cover can have its paper hinges cut open, but otherwise, the cover should conform to the standards of a VG+ cover. There may be only minor ink or pencil notations by a collector.

Very Good (VG): A Very Good LP has visible imperfections on the vinyl and has obviously been considerably handled, the LP has the appearance that it should play without serious skipping, repeating, or overall distortion. A Very Good cover will also show clear visible wear from handling and there may be significant inking or owner’s markings on the cover. The outer edge cover seams might be widely broken, but the overall condition is not tattered or falling apart.
