Description
Up for auction is a gorgeous first pressing White Label Promo of "The Knowbody Else". This is the self-titled debut of the band that would go on to become Black Oak Arkansas. This release is on HIP Records (a division of Stax). This record is a Southern Psych Rock Cult Classic!!! You should research the background of these early recordings... it's really a fascinating story!
This is a white label promo. Promotional records were the earliest pressings. Given out to radio stations to promote record sales, they are known for their superior sound quality! That holds true here... this album sounds great! The vinyl is thick, heavy gauge which leads to a very full sound. Ultra rare and impossible to find in such excellent condition! Whether you are a collector looking to upgrade your copy or someone who loves this classic album, or both... you really can't go wrong with this LP!!!
The condition of the vinyl is EX+. This means that there are only one or two very faint marks such as those caused by contact with the inner sleeve. Absolutely full gloss. No Scuffs or scratches. I play graded the record as well and I can tell you that it sounds amazing, even in the low spots between tracks it is very quiet. Truly an excellent record!!!
The condition of the jacket is VG+. The graphics are sharp and very clear. Light beginnings of ring wear mostly on the reverse. Light corner rubs. The radio station dj made small notes on the back of the cover next to each song title. Just a couple of numbers next to each one and in some cases the word "freaky" is written very small. This writing is done in black pen on a black background and it barely shows up. I tried to take a photo of it but you can't even see it in the photo. In fact I never noticed the writing the whole time I owned the album, just came across it as I was taking a closer look for grading purposes. Spine is strong and solid. Beautiful Jacket! Original plain inner sleeve is included in great shape.
This album contains some really great southern rock with a psych vibe. The lyrics dip towards the wild and weird psychedelic side of the late sixties, and the voice of James Mangrum makes the words even more surreal. These early recordings from a legendary band have achieved cult status due to their raw honest flavor and the hard to find nature of the vinyl. This is your chance to own and enjoy a great collector's piece!
This excerpt is taken from the reverse of the album cover:
In 1963, "KNOWBODY ELSE" was born in Black Oak, Arkansas.
In 1964, "KNOWBODY ELSE" was learning, creating, dreaming and starving.
In 1965, "KNOWBODY ELSE" was misunderstood.
In 1966, "KNOWBODY ELSE" was sentenced to twenty-six years at Tucker Prison Farm for theft of local High School Public Address System ... needed equipment. Sentence suspended.
In 1967, "KNOWBODY ELSE" was scorned by the straight world ... rejected by Uncle Sam.
In 1968, "KNOWBODY ELSE" went to New Orleans; turned on the French Quarter with their music. Got turned on. LOOK OUT!
In 1969, "KNOWBODY ELSE" wandered into Stax Records, introducing one of the most unique sounds in the Company's history since Redding.
