Description
The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (‘The JAMs’): 1987 What The F***’s Going On, Vinyl 12-inch LP, The Sound of Mu(sic), 1987
‘The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu’ (or ‘The JAMs’ and later ‘The KLF’) were a British electronic/hip hop/rock band who appeared in the late 1980s, the brainchild of Scottish musician Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and English musician Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock). This was their debut album, a hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy offering. The LP is infamous in that it had to be withdrawn from circulation due to copyright issues, principally from use of samples from the ABBA track ‘Dancing Queen’; therefore this original item is something of a rarity item.
Catalogue number JAMS LP1. 33 rpm. Pictorial single card outer sleeve. Original plain paper inner sleeve. Includes an insert for JAMs ‘merchandise’. Disc matrix/run-outs (all etched): (Side 1) MPO JAMS LP 1 A¹; (Side 2): MPO JAMS LP 1 B¹. Other disc label identifiers: ‘℗ 1987 The Sound Of Mu(sic)’ ‘© 1987 The Sound Of Mu(sic)’. ‘All sounds on this recording have been captured by the KLF in the name of Mu, we hereby liberate these sounds from all copyright restrictions, without prejudice. A KLF Communication’.
Side 1: Hey Hey We Are Not The Monkees; Don't Take Five (Take What You Want); Rockman Rock Parts 2 and 3
Side 2: Me Ru Con; The Queen And I; All You Need Is Love; Next
Condition:
Card outer sleeve: Excellent condition overall - the front is pretty immaculate, very clean without wear or marks, except for the lower right corner being bumped - see photos, the spine is also immaculate, very clean with pretty much no wear at all, just the lower end bumped as mentioned, the rear does have some patchy light wear with the glossy black surface rubbed - see photos. Very light visible imprint of the vinyl disc evident.
Inner sleeve: Very good+ clean condition, plain white paper, without a poly-lining and die-cut on both sides to show label, some light visible imprint of the vinyl disc and some light crumpling.
Merchandise insert: Looks in pristine condition.
Vinyl: Excellent, will have been played once or twice at most – see Ts&Cs. While there are a certainly a few visible light hairlines and several light ‘scuffs’ on the vinyl, it has been play tested to check these and they do not seem to affect the playback at all. For example, the track ‘Me Ru Con’, which is just vocals (so it is possible to hear quite clearly without any sampling to over-ride the sound), appears to be unaffected by surface marks. Labels look immaculate, with no spindle drag marks or wear to inner edge of hole.
Seller’s Terms & Conditions
My items
All the vinyl records which I have up for auction are my own personal possessions - I am selling to free up space. Unless stated, all the records were purchased new, most were taped shortly after purchase so one or two plays at most and the vinyl has been in storage since.
Condition assessment/‘grading’
All items have been visually assessed for condition under good lighting. Any specific possible issue will be checked by a limited ‘play test’. Please note though that most of the discs were taped shortly after purchase and the vinyl has been in storage since. So, none of the vinyl has been played at all since c.1990, unless I mention an aforementioned ‘play test’ to check on a specific condition issue for this auction.
In my item description, I am not using any of the formal grading systems vinyl dealer’s use, I’m using my own judgement. In addition to my description, I would strongly urge potential buyers to study the photographs carefully - as these form an essential part of the condition report. All the photos were taken by me and are of the actual item - none are stock photos.
Matrix/run-out details
In some cases, I have included alphanumeric matrix information from the run-out/‘dead wax’, as far as I can make it out – these numbers/letters can be very difficult to decipher in some cases. I appreciate that collectors may need exact details of matrix ‘variants’, so if further information or clarification is needed please message me through ebay and I will do what I can to provide what you need.
P&P charges (UK buyers):
P&P charge is £4.95 for Royal Mail’s standard ‘Tracked 48’ service. For an additional 70p per item, I can send up to five LPs in a mailer (NB double albums count as two LPs). Please note that when buyers win more than one item but pay for each item along with its P&P charge separately, I get charged a transaction fee for each!! Therefore, for multiple purchases, please await an invoice from me before paying, then I get charged for just a single transaction.
For a P&P charge of £5.95 the buyer can choose to opt for Royal Mail’s enhanced ‘Tracked 48 with Signature’ service. Again, for an additional 70p per item, I can send up to five LPs in a mailer (NB double albums count as two LPs). Please note that when buyers win more than one item but pay for each item along with its P&P charge separately, I get charged a transaction fee for each!! Therefore, for multiple purchases, please await an invoice from me before paying, then I get charged for just a single transaction.
For a P&P charge of £8.95 – recommended for particularly valuable items or items required quickly - the buyer can choose to opt for Royal Mail’s ‘Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm’ service. Again, for an additional 70p per item I can send up to five LPs in a mailer (NB double albums count as two LPs). Overseas buyers:
ebay will use their Global Shipping Programme, so I have no control over costs. Please be aware that exports outside of the UK may incur local Tax and Duty, so please check with your local Customs Office and I do not accept any responsibility for any such charges.
Payment method/payment timescale:
PAYPAL preferred but any electronic payment method which ebay accepts is OK. Please ensure your details are up to date. I accept no responsibility if the buyer’s delivery address is not up to date and will not issue a refund in such a case.
I would very much appreciate prompt payment by successful buyers, preferably as soon as possible after the end of the auction please. Please be aware that I will wait a maximum of 48 hours after auction end without payment or any communication from buyer before I cancel the transaction and relist. However, I am happy to wait if a buyer wants to try and win a few items in order to combine them in one parcel (and gain a postage discount) – simply communicate with me through ebay if this is the case.
Cleaning & Packaging:
All vinyl has been carefully wiped with an anti-static cloth lightly sprayed with Spincare ‘record cleaner for vinyl records’. Items will be robustly packaged to avoid damage in shipping. Each vinyl disc will be inside a brand new, good quality anti-static poly inner sleeve, rather than being inside the original inner sleeve and cover, this to avoid seam splits in transit. The disc - inside its new poly inner sleeve - will be separated from its original inner sleeve and its original outer cover and all will be inside a brand new polythene outer record 'sleeve'. This will then be inside a brand new good quality (corrugated/double wall) cardboard vinyl mailer. The mailer will be also packed with at least one brand new good quality (corrugated/double wall) card stiffener to provide extra protection.
