Description:
Offered here is an original 1964 D-Town Records 45 by The Fugitives: A Fugitive (Instrumental) b/w A Fugitive (Vocal feat. Lucky Cruz). Pressed in extremely limited numbers on Detroit’s legendary but short-lived D-Town label, this record is widely regarded by collectors as a holy grail of Motor City R&B/garage crossover. Its mix of raw teen energy and soul-driven production embodies the exact sound that made Detroit an epicenter of mid-60s underground music.
This copy carries museum-level provenance, having come directly from the private collection of a Detroit disc jockey active during the 1960s. The disc bears authentic signs of professional use: taped labels for durability, hand-etched year notation (“1964”), personal markings, and even a vintage phone number etched into the deadwax. These are not flaws — they are tangible evidence of this record’s life on the air and in Detroit teen clubs at the moment the music first broke.
Condition: VG. Labels show age, tape marks, and DJ writing. Vinyl has visible scuffs and light scratches, consistent with DJ play, but spins through without skips. The sound retains the raw punch and grit that collectors prize in these Detroit sides.
Copies of A Fugitive rarely surface at all, and when they do, they command $300–$500+ at auction, depending on condition and provenance. With its direct Detroit DJ history, this example offers both rarity and authenticity — a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a true artifact of Motor City music history.
