The Fall is a post-punk band from Manchester, England, formed in 1976 and fronted by the enigmatic and prolific Mark E. Smith. Smith's sardonic wit and unique vocal delivery defined the band's sound throughout their long and prolific career.
Released in 1986, Bend Sinister is The Fall’s ninth studio album. It marks a transitional period for the band, blending their earlier raw, lo-fi post-punk style with more experimental, layered production. The album’s title refers to a heraldic term meaning a "diagonal stripe" and also nods to the dystopian novel Bend Sinister by Vladimir Nabokov, reflecting the album’s dark, unsettling atmosphere.
