Very rare true 1st Mono US pressing copy of The Doors' third studio album Waiting For The Sun. Original 1st print UNIPAK design gatefold cover with the "UNIPAK - PAT. PENDING" at the bottom of the spine inside the gatefold. One side of the gatefold opens while the other one is a single-ply cardboard. The album comes with an original Elektra Records gold inner sleeve with the "E" Elektra logo. Original gold Elektra Records labels with the large "E" logo and 2.75" diameter pressing ring. True 1st pressing vinyl pressed at Columbia Records, Terre Haute, IN pressing plant as identified by the “T” symbol in the runout groove on both sides.. Both sides of the vinyl contain the true 1st -1B / -1B matrix numbers: SIDE 1 - EKL 4024A-1B  I  T / SIDE 2 - EKL 4024B-1B  I  T.

This listing includes an incredibly rare original promotional vintage 1968 “The Doors” booklet, which based on the stamp located on its back belonged to Sunset Studio Recorders where T he Doors recorded its first two albums. “Waiting for the Sun” was recorded at Tom Hidley’s TTG Studios. It’s most likely The Doors’ cooperation with the “Two Terrible Guys” was justified by the fact that the recording studio was one of the first ones to install the 16-track tape recorders at a time when the 4- or 8-track recording was still the norm. How rare is this booklet? Well, we couldn’t find any information or photos related to it anywhere. It could be said the confidence that the photos located in the booklet were taken during the “Waiting for the Sun” photo session. The booklet contains the article by Paul Nelson “We’re the Doors”. The fragments of the article are located on Page 2 and 4, which gives a basis for assuming that this is the front and back pages of the booklet whose interior pages are missing. In spite of this circumstance, in our opinion this booklet is still one of the rarest memorabilia related to this album.

There is probably no need to say that the majority of the Mono covers of “Waiting for the Sun” are being sold in a severely worn-out condition. However, the cover of this copy is remarkable for its condition. Along with the other Doors albums currently listed on our auction, it comes from a collection, which was very well taken care of. I grade the cover as Excellent because it doesn’t have any splits, writing, soiling or ring wear (perhaps, only a slight hint of it at the top of the back cover and on the black panel inside the gatefold). It’s very clean and has almost no shelf wear, except for the top left corner, which has a little bit of wear. The white left panel of the gatefold interior doesn’t have any soiling, which is very often found on this album. Another rarity would be the fact that the spine of this cover contains a fully readable text with the edges having almost no scuffing, which is usually not the case with the other copies. I grade the vinyl as Very Good Plus. It maintains its beautiful factory gloss but has some light surface hairlines and scuffs from the inner sleeve. The very clean labels are wear- and scuff-free, only having a couple of very light spindle marks seen under a strong light source. The vinyl sounds great, only having some very light occasional background noise, which becomes more evident during the quiet passages and in between the songs, and is most likely just static and will get reduced or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI machine. The pages of the booklet are in great condition only having some light shelf wear and signs of use. The original gold / white Elektra Records inner sleeve is in Near Mint minus condition and doesn’t have any splits.
