Description
'The Soft Parade' was the The Doors' 4th Studio album and became their most expensive to record and produce. Released in July of 1969, the music on the album was mostly a departure from the kind of sound and style that fans of the band had grown accustomed to. Though not entirely well received when first released, the music on the album for the most part, has aged well. 'Shaman's Blues', 'Wild Child', 'Wishful Sinful', and 'The Soft Parade', are all striking songs and few bands at the time were as creative.
The copy of this album I am offering is a very rare Canadian promo edition with gold, deep-grooved labels in a thick and sturdy constructed gatefold jacket. This came out of a collection from a Canadian DJ who mostly played jazz and classical music on his radio station. Though it is slightly more common to find the gold Elektra labels on first Canadian releases of this album, it is far less common to find them in unplayed, near mint condition as this one is in. The audio simply blew me away! Bold, detailed, clear, balanced, and distortion-free. I can assure you, as a long time collector of this band's music and memorabilia, finding a promo copy of 'The Soft Parade' with gold deep-grooved labels in Near Mint condition is like finding a needle in a hay stack.
Condition of Gatefold Jacket: Near Mint(-) ....in fact, the minus is for the clean Promo hole punch at the top left corner of the cover. If it wasn't for this, I'd easily grade it NearMint ~ Mint.....beautifully constructed with thick card stock, the colors are still vivid and bold with no yellowing or age-related wear. The spine is solid and legible....virtually no edge or corner wear....interior of the gatefold jacket is flawless....a beautiful, near-perfect example.
Please Note: First Canadian pressings did not come with a photo/lyric inner-sleeve.
Condition of Record: Near Mint....record is thick and heavy....the rich, gold-amber hued deep-grooved labels are exceptionally clean when viewed in daylight....no spindle marks anywhere! I can not emphasize enough how rare it is to find a first-pressed copy of this record in this kind of condition. When looked at under strong light, one can see some faint sleeve-removal marks and other similar marks undoubtedly created when the record was first made and handled at the factory. None of these marks or lines have any bearing on the sensational audio. I listened to this record from start to finish and I can tell you with 100% certainty: You will not find a cleaner and better sounding copy of this album anywhere.
