The Doors self-titled debut album hardly needs an introduction. In 1967, NOBODY sounded like them; you either hated them, were confused or loved them. They were an incredible band whose members were very well read and it clearly showed in just about every song they recorded. Who but the Doors could have comfortably covered both Weill/Brecht ("Alabama Song") and Howlin' Wolf ("Back Door Man") on the same album? That they did it on their debut, in between their own masterpieces like "Break On Through", "Light My Fire", and "The End", only makes it all the more impressive. The copy I am offering is the extremely rare and highly desirable, 1st Japanese pressing. I've heard just about every pressing of this superb album and I've concluded that this one tops them all. It has a slightly "louder" playback than the 1st U.S. pressing and amazingly enough, was pressed on translucent virgin vinyl (when raised to a light source one can see right through) which makes it less prone to static and other issues. Another interesting difference....Side 1 has a completely different song order on this particular pressing. The sound though, is truly superb with all instruments sounding clear, distinct and vibrant.....Much has been written about The Doors' supremely gifted singer, poet, songwriter, Jim Morrison. His behavior was often childish and indefensible, but his recorded legacy on this timeless album renders his anti-social tendencies irrelevant.
Condition of Lp Jacket: Excellent....when looked at straight on, the cover actually looks almost perfect; with colors still vivid. Showing some edge and corner wear..... a not too obvious 4" seam split at the bottom. The back, due to the white surface shows some discoloration and the shadow of where some tape had been placed. All in all, a very acceptable example of this jacket. Included is the original, audiophile inner-sleeve.
Condition of Record: Excellent(+) .....there are very few moments of disturbance on this record. As mentioned previously, the audio is simply incredible. Visually, you can see some superficial marks or hairlines; but virtually none have any bearing on playback. I've tried to show how unique the detail of the grooves appear when angled under light. Please have a look at the photos I've uploaded.
