Description
An original mono 1st press of SDs on the UK Elektra label from 1967. Matrix A1/B1 - very 1st cut. Please note there are a number of observations from the labels which prove genuine 1st press. Firstly, there's no Doors logo showing yet - this would appear roughly six months after 1st issue. Secondly neither label mentions the producers name Paul A Rothchild - all later copies mention him. Thirdly, the publishing credit Essex & Paradox - were the 1st used and other variations are found on later issues. No.4... Track 2 on Side 2 is listed as "My Eyes Have Seen You In My Mind"... this is clearly an error and conflation of tracks 2 & 3..whoops! And then there is also the addition of the letters "CN" & "NT." within the famous Elektra logo. I can find no other record of this anomaly and would love to know what it refers to..[Any Elektra experts please do drop me a line if you know..>>]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original uncredited cover - these are thought to be the very earliest iteration at 1st issue. We also have the original lyric inner sleeve too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks either side, and perhaps one superficial trail..but nothing heavy or sinister. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. By and large a nice and clean rendition which, in mono, sounds absolutely superb. Interference is both minor and infrequent. Expect a few crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side. The only deviation from the given grading is ten ticks as track 1 starts up. Half of which occur right at the start where it's low-key..hence audible. The other half occur when the track has kicked in properly and are, thus, not that all that noticeable. Other than that expect some great audio from this genuine 1967 mono copy.
Cover (Ex) Might grade higher, but for four tiny pin-pricks.. one in each corner. The front is a lovely, borderline immaculate, flat shiny surface. I can only make out one small crease - which must be unusual. The rear is equally good with no creases at all. Edge wear is pretty much non existent. None of the corners are bumped and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A beautiful specimen!
Inner (Ex) Very little ageing at all. No splits or markings. Just some creasing at the corners. One can't help thinking that that must be quite unusual...
