Vinyl:
This is the original UK 1st press release of Morrison Hotel/Hard Rock Cafe. The LP looks virtually MINT and plays AS NEW! There are a couple of barely visible spindle marks on the labels but it really hasn’t been played often. The vinyl has a lovely deep black sheen, with some very light surface marks when held up to the light. And the sound is fantastic! It plays beautifully ALL the way through. There are NO scratches, NO surface noise and NO distortion from wear. Quiet passages (and there are a few) are just that - quiet! And the loud stuff is fully present with great power and clarity and separation between instruments. The sound is simply superb! This is a genuinely rare 1st pressing in this condition - A//1 (Side 1) and B//1 (Side 2) stamped by the run-off grooves. To me, this is a final upgrade, as I cannot imagine listening to a better copy.
Labels:
These are the original orange/red Elektra labels. They are in MINT clean condition with two or three light spindle marks on both sides.
Sleeve:
The original gatefold sleeve is in genuinely EXCELLENT condition showing little of the wear associated with handling and shelving and ageing. There are no tears, no corner dents, and the spine is firm with no significant creases. The cover is clean and clear both inside and out with no creases whatsoever. And the colours have not faded at all. It looks fantastic for an unlaminated sleeve that is 40 years old! BUT it will be obvious to you that there is a sticker in the top left hand corner (or what's left of it), and I cannot shift it. The whole album is nigh on perfect apart from this one blemish. If you can live with it (as I have done for decades) then great. If not, then please don't bid.
Inner sleeve:
This is the original polylined inner in EXCELLENT undamaged condition. There is very minor ageing/staining on the inside along the glue line, but this is normal. The numbers in the bottom right hand corner B 1/0370 indicate the actual date this record was pressed, i.e. March 1970. The actual date was stamped on the inner sleeves of all Polydor releases from 1970 onwards.
Final verdict:
A genuinely superb 1st press top copy and final upgrade for any Doors/rock fan.
