Description

A 1970 pressing of The Doors' 'Morrison Hotel' that is rarely seen. Despite what is printed on the labels ("Manufactured In Canada"), all details indicate that this record was in fact, made in the U.S.  The gatefold jacket may have been printed in Canada (with modifications to the original U.S. print negatives which were undoubtedly used) but the label design & font, specific Amber/Tan label color, Matrix numbers, and the appearance of the record itself....leaves little doubt that this record was pressed at the Columbia Pitman Pressing facilities in New Jersey. All first Canadian pressings of this album had metallic gold labels and had a completely different layout and font and were distinctly "deep-grooved".  In addition, the matrix numbers were totally different from this copy.  
I believe for whatever reason, a small batch of pressings for this album were done at the Pitman, NJ  plant  for eventual distribution in Canada.  What you have here is as close to a U.S. Elektra Records tan label pressing of 'Morrison Hotel' as you are likely to get.  This is only the 3rd copy I have found in 40 years of collecting Doors records and memorabilia.  Moreover, it is in stunning condition and the audio is simply mind-blowing.
Gatefold Jacket: Excellent(+).....thick and heavy boards used in the construction of this jacket.  Colors are rich and accurate to Henry Diltz's original photographs.  The surface of the jacket has a special semi-matt kind of feel to it.  The spine is solid and only shows a small split at the very top.  Inner-gatefold is almost perfect with an inoffensive tiny split at the very center.  A truly beautiful example. 
Record: Near Mint(minus) ....the thick and heavy vinyl looks like it just left the factory.  If not for a superficial non-sounding mark on Side 1,  the surface on both sides look shiny and perfect. As mentioned previously, the audio is startling....bold, detailed, sharp, with superb bass and mid-range response.  Possibly the best sounding copy of this record I have ever heard.  An exhilarating  audiophile experience from start to finish.
