Description
From 1967....The Doors sensational, iconic, and blistering debut album in Mono (EKL-4007). If for many years all you've heard were Stereo versions of this album, the Mono mix becomes even more startlingly different upon first listen. Some songs have a more radically different mix than others....but there is no doubt it is a dedicated Mono mix.
As most collector's and audiophile's know, it is quite challenging to find a vintage Mono pressing of this album in decent and playable condition. Due to this fact, I have (exceptionally) graded* each song individually to help potential buyers in their decision making process.
Side 1
1. Break On Through ................Ex+ 2. Soul Kitchen...........................E- 3. Crystal Ship............................VG+/- 4. Twentieth Century Fox...........Ex+ 5. Alabama Song .......................Ex- 6. Light My Fire .........................Ex
Side 2
1. Back Door Man .....................VG+ 2. I Looked At You .....................Ex+ 3. End Of The Night ..................Ex- 4. Take It As It Comes ................Ex 5. The End .................................VG- (light ticks heard over the first half) Ex (second half)
*I used Goldmine Grading.
As you can see, most of the songs play quite well and in some cases, VERY well. A tough pressing to find that plays Near Mint from beginning to end. The copy I'm offering is not perfect but certainly better than most that are found.
Cover: Very Good+ ......some ring wear to the front and back but not unbearably so. Good solid card stock used for the cover....the spine has held up nicely with only some wear near the middle. Minimal edge wear. The colors are still quite vivid. A very nice example and unless found in shrink wrap, will not be found much better.
Original Inner-Sleeve: Excellent+.....amazingly without any splits. A higher quality inner will be provided to house the precious record.
Record: VG(minus) ~ Ex+ ....(Please see above for detailed grading) The thick and heavy vinyl shows a few hairlines, scuffs, and marks....but still looks a lot better than most copies I've seen. The tan/gold labels look quite nice and just have a few imperfections that were undoubtedly made during the pressing process. The audio quality on 80% of this record is fantastic...clear and detailed. If you can deal with a few minor issues then this record should make you quite happy. An authentic, vintage 1967 U.S. Mono pressing of The Doors 1st studio album.
Matrix Numbers: Side 1 EKL 4007 A (A) ARC* Side 2 EKL 4007 B (A) ARC*
* Etched in tiny letters in the deadwax area (you may need a magnifying glass to make it out!) ARC corresponds to the (now defunct) American Record Corporation in Hollywood, CA. Not many copies of this album were pressed at this plant.
